Birth Name: Erzhena-Lee Sohn
Nickname/Alias: Several times while her sire was feeding upon her, and having his way with her, the fiend called her Yra Kim. At first she thought perhaps it was a case of mistaken identity, then slowly she grew so comfortable with the idea that she started to become Yra Kim. Yra does not remember her human name and only remembers snippets from her human life, so she adopted the name she had been given by her sire, seeing no reason not to do so.
Age: 18
Age of Embrace: 18
Clan: Tzimisce
Sire: Yra does not know the name of her sire.
Sect: Sabbat
Generation: 11th
Path of Enlightenment: Humanity [3-4]
Initially as Yra awakens from her watery grave like some kind of cliché from an Asian horror flick, she will be clinging to very low levels of humanity. Between 3-4.
Even in initial post wakening hours however, Yra feels her humanity slipping away, and is loathe to care.
Yra's Future: In the Future, Yra will adapt the Path of Power and the Inner Voice.
The basic tenants of these beliefs will take shape from those she already holds, and be expanded upon. For her control of herself and of the world around her will be her primary goals/pursuits:
She will not tolerate her own failure and will be disquieted by the failure of others.
She will respect her superiors and all those with power over herself.
She will ensure that she always gains something from her actions, therefore she will only help others when its necessary or when she gets something out of it.
She will not hesitate to kill others when they stand against her, given that it is possible for her to deal with these individuals in this manner. If not, she will find a secondary way to deal with them.
She will not follow a fool. She believes that if she is in the right she will be vindicated, but if she follows a fool she will suffer for that choice.
She believes that she must be iron fisted and resolute in everything that she does.
She believes that those under her power, mainly the kine, should find punishment when they fail to live up to her expectations.
She will not turn down an opportunity to seize more power for herself, because personal power is the means to all ends.
Language(s): English, Korean
Derangement(s):
Yra has the delusion that the events in Asian Horror Flicks she has seen are real, and that there is a conspiracy to cover it up.
Yra has depersonalization disorder, sometimes feeling as though she is an outsider watching herself or that she is the star of some Asian horror flick.
Yra Sometimes presents her otherwise intelligent thoughts in a confusing and disorganized manner.
(List any mental illnesses, diseases or phobias your character has. All Malkavian characters must begin play with at least 1 derangement)
Disciplines: Vicisitude 2 , Obfuscate 1
Yra finds it more difficult to use her bone crafting abilities at this stage. She is still getting the knack of it all.
As far as her knowledge of Obfuscate goes, even though she knows these powers, she does not know she knows these powers at the offset, and when she realizes it, Cloak of Shadows will not come with the same ease that Mask of a Thousand Faces does.
Status in the Sabbat: Shovelhead
Misc: Note: Yra will soon learn that she must rest with two handfuls of dirt from that fateful location down by Pigs Eye Lake, the place of her Embrace, where her life was changed forever.
Flaws:
Amnesia: Yra has very limited memories of herself, and her past. She does not remember her given name, the names of her family members or where she is from. She also does not remember attending Public School in Chicago. Yra does however, remember a few isolated incidents, and whether they are of importance or just a fluke remains to be seen. (See History for further Details)
Sado-Masochism: Yra feels a sense of euphoria that she never experienced in human life, even during sexual practices, when giving or receiving pain. She experiences these feels equally so whether she is the recipient of the pain, or the one causing it.
Appearance Obsession: Yra is overly obsessed with her appearance, and finding perfection in it. In her mortal years she was surrounded by the Korean culture’s obsession with correcting flaws through plastic surgery, and even considered undergoing the knife when she came of age, but now her obsession is different. She is obsessed with figuring out why all of a sudden she sometimes looks strange to herself, and what this means.
Merits:
Acute Sense of Hearing: You have especially sharp hearing, even for a vampire. You cannot always tell right away where far off sounds are coming from, but you are able to hear some things that others cannot.
Inoffensive to Animals: Animals do not fear or distrust you the way they do most of the Kindred. They treat you as they would any mortal and do not shy from your touch.
Computer Apptitude: Through the many computer classes you were forced to take that you do not remember taking you have become fairly adept at the usage of computers. Your knowledge is basic, involving the installation of software, html, DHTML, and some minor programming. Hacking is not a part of this, as they obviously don’t teach you that in school
First Impression: Yra is peculiar. She is not exactly batshit crazy, but she is far from normal as well. Sometimes she has a difficult time organizing her thoughts, and her otherwise intelligent musing comes across as a series of disorganized ramblings.
Often times, her almond brown eyes seem a million miles away, and you can snap your fingers multiple times, and she doesn’t seem to notice, and sometimes she doesn’t notice , but other times, she does notice and she is just, too busy contemplating something a lower person wouldn’t contemplate to care if you think her posture is unnatural.
Appearance: Upon first glance, it is obvious that Yra is of Korean descent. Yra is five foot five inches tall, and like most Asians, slender, with long black straight hair, and almond brown eyes that are like a refined piece of amber. She has a nearly flawless milky white complexion, spoiled only by a couple of small freckles and a scar on the left side, on her collarbone where her sire slashed her open before feeding on her.
Yra’s outfits typically consist of things she has sewen herself, outfits she has gotten from the Goodwill or Salvation Army, or cheap clothing she has acquired else where. Sometimes she will wear asian style clothes with adjustments made to them to make them more ‘modern.’
Yra likes the colors black and red for some unexplainable reason, and when she is not wearing more earthy tones, she can be seen sporting clothes in these colors.
Yara also like jewelry, especially imitation ruby, emerald, pearl, and Jade.
Personality: Yra is a hard worker, believing that everything that is worth doing is worth doing right. She will press for others to work just as hard as she is when a task needs done and she is working with a group, and she will not pick up the slack for lazy people. She absolutely abhors laziness as she was pushed very hard her whole life to work hard, and that work ethic is ingrained in her.
She is a little superstitious, believing in the old Asian Faery tales that she has heard. She has learned a few religious rituals from Korean Shamanism (although from where she doesn’t recall) and the most basic, burning incense to cleanse an area while speaking old Korean incantations, she will practice without hesitancy no matter what other people think of it.
Yra was always a little cool and callous as a mortal, but now she is a little more detached and aloof than she used to be. She can’t always concentrate as well as she would like to so she calls upon meditation to quiet her mind to get her through periods of time where she feels like she is outside of her body or that things are changing around her, without her control.
Morality: When your diet suddenly switches from burgers and fries to blood and sadism, inevitably, so does your idea of right and wrong. Even upon her early waking moments, when Yra found herself being attacked by her former students, new in the blood as she was, in a life and death struggle to survive, she found herself redefining right and wrong. She had to, or she would die.
A lot is still in the making, as she is newly risen, but some things have already been etched in stone. A few examples include:
1. Knowledge is power. Don’t you feel that new power coursing in your veins? Go out and figure out where it comes from, and how to get more already.
2. If someone is trying to kill you, kill them first. This is a no brainer but for weak people, it is easier said than done. Yra is resolute to be anything but weak.
3. Respect those who deserve respect. Look down upon those who deserve nothing but your contempt.
4. You have changed and are ever changing. Didn’t you notice your fingers elongating and your consciousness removing itself from the prisons of your mind. (Reference to her Depersonalization Disorder) Do not remain stagnant, for to do so is the gravest sin of all.
Feeding Preferences: Because Yra has seen one too many Asian horror flicks, Yra will not feed off of Asians, because she believes their spirts will rise as ghosts seeking revenge.
History:
The Hidden Truths
Yra Kim was born on January 24th, 1995, under the name Erzhena-Lee Sohn, after a Russian actress that Yra’s mother Nam-Kyu was obsessed with. Her father Hyung-Shik Sohn was a liscenced Neurosurgeon, and her mother was a Psychiatrist Education was pushed on the young woman from the day she entered kindergarten, right up until her Senior year of High School in Montgomery High.
She was not a naturally gifted student, and had to work twice as hard at all her skills in order to perform satisfactory to appease her doctor parents. Some how, the young woman still managed to have a social life inspite of this, even though sometimes she had to turn down invitations from her friends to attend certain parties, make a trip to the cafe for a cappuchino, make a trip to the movies or the mall, or things like that.
When Yra (Erzehena as she was known at the time) entered her Junior year, she became obsessed with Asian Horror Films. She watched them with her friends on weekends because her parents had strict rules she could not watch movies during the week. Weekdays were for her studies, and very rarely was she ever permitted to do anything but hit the books Monday through Thursday.
Her mother tried to psychoanalyze her, and so Yra learned some psychological jargon, but like some atheists believe religion is utter bullshit, she never thought much of her mothers practice, unlike her father's job as a surgeon. To Yra, surgery was a proven science, and Psychology, a quackery. Even though she is not consciously aware of why, she has carried these beliefs into her unlife.
Snippets from the Past
Although much of her human life has been lost to her, there are a few sparks of memory of this time that remain for her.
1. Taking a trip to Seoul South Korea when she were sixteen years old, and purchasing a red and black fan which you still have from that trip.
2. Taking a Yoga class, although she do not remember where, what kind of yoga, or who led the classes.
3. Martial Arts: Yra took Tai Chi classes at some point, although she was far from a master in the art, it helped to shape her outlook and teach her concentration and meditation.
4. Asian Horror Movies: Yra was a big Asian horror movie fan in her human days, however, now that she is embraced, her perception of memories of watching these movies is skewed. Yra actually thinks these movies took place, and that she had some involvement with the incidents, even though she doesn’t really know what that involvement was. This has translated into the belief that she is trapped in a hellish reality where her life is an Asian horror movie.
5. Frequent trips to a Mall, although she does not know where. Although it seems stupid to her now that she has been transformed into this vampiric creature, Yra knows she frequently went to the mall, and probably spent more of her hard earned cash than she should have there.
6. Muism: She frequently sought out the direction of a Korean Shaman. This was someone she knew, which she somehow seems to know even though in her memories she can see the colorful robes the Shaman wore, but never the woman’s face.
7. The Becoming: Of all things, Yra remembers with absolute clarity her embrace. When the bus veered off course, like everyone else, at first she did not question what was happening. Then the hell began. The vampires stepped into the bus and 39 people scrambled to go, nowhere, because there was nowhere for them to go. The feeding frenzy would be forever etched in Yra’s mind, even if so many other things were forgotten. The fiend who approached her appeared to be of Slavic origin, and had a detectable accent. He grabbed her, knocked her around, and slashed her collar bone open with his long clawl-like talons. She remembered thinking he must be mistaking her for someone else, and wondering why he called her Yra Kim. Eventually though she accepted that she was Yra Kim, and forget her old self completely.
Being Yra Now its as nature as the rising and setting of the sun. The young woman she used to be is all but forgotten. Now Yra has to recreate herself. Sure, she has a name and a handful of memories, but that is hardly enough for her to go about a new life.
Yra has a few intentions that came upon her as she woke and feasted on the first draught of vitate. She wants more, but she doesn't want the seeking of blood to be such an all consuming passion that she forgets to seek answers.
She knows that being drained of her own blood, and being feed blood in return made her what she is. But what exactly is that? Even as a student in school when she had questions it burned in her soul till she found answers to her questions, and things haven't changed very much for her now that she is a vampire.
Yra would have worried before about getting a new change of clothing and maybe a shower after climbing out of a river, but some how, that no longer seems the most important thing. In fact everything around her seems different, even though she knows that the only thing that has changed is her knowledge and perception of the world around her.
Domain/Haven: Yra has no haven currently, as she really has not had the time to establish herself, hell she just woke up, and barely had her first meal.
Welcome to the Twin Cities: Yra was a student on the Charter Bus filled with students from Montgomery High that was overun by the nomad sabbat packs at Pigs Eye Lake. Now it seems the Chicago native isn’t going home, and that her life is taking an interesting, and most unexpected turn.
